Dried Orange & Eucalyptus Wreath You Can Hang All Winter

Dried citrus, eucalyptus, and cinnamon — a wreath that lasts for years.

This wreath costs a fraction of a shop-bought one and smells like a Scandinavian Christmas. The best part: because everything is dried rather than fresh, you can pack it away and reuse it season after season.

What You'll Need

  • 1 grapevine or wire wreath base (30 cm)
  • 3 oranges, sliced 5 mm thick
  • 2 bunches dried eucalyptus
  • 1 handful cinnamon sticks
  • Floral wire (22 gauge) and a hot glue gun
  • Ribbon for hanging

Step 1: Dry the Oranges

Slice oranges evenly and pat them dry with kitchen paper. Bake at 90 °C for 3–4 hours, flipping every hour, until they're leathery and no longer sticky. A dehydrator works even better if you have one.

Even slices dry evenly — a mandoline helps.

Step 2: Build the Base Greenery

Wire small eucalyptus sprigs around the base, working in one direction so the wreath has a natural flow. Overlap each sprig by about a third. Keep the underside flat so it sits nicely against a door.

Step 3: Add the Citrus

  1. Group oranges in threes — odd numbers always look better.
  2. Thread floral wire through the pith of each slice and twist it around the base.
  3. Add a cinnamon stick bundle between each citrus cluster.
  4. Fill gaps with small eucalyptus offcuts.

Step 4: Finish and Hang

Add a wide linen ribbon loop at the top. If you're hanging it outdoors, give the whole wreath a light spray of matte sealant to protect it from damp.

Pro tip Store your wreath in a breathable cotton bag, not plastic. Plastic traps moisture and turns dried citrus mouldy.
